Workshops

I am committed to providing a well-rounded Yoga education to my students.  In 2009 I am going to hold workshops for those who wish to deepen their practice and knowledge of Yoga.  All workshops are 2 hours long, and will be offered from 10 to 12:00noon on the day that is preferred by most people.  We are going to have a vote on what would be the most convenient day, usually a weekend.  Price of attendance - $25 per person.  For my long-time students who have taken these workshops before I highly recommend taking them again - because I bring new knowledge and teach it differently every time.  Also, we change, our level of understanding changes, and you may be able to process the same information differently, on a whole new level, taking it again a few months later.  The price for taking the same workshop again is only $10!

The following workshops will be offered in 2009, with specific dates announced as the time approaches:

  • Chakras - we will talk about the energy centers and channels in the body.  This workshop will cover the main seven along the spinal column, how to spot blockages of energy and what to do to help clear them up.  Stay for an extra half hour practice of movement and chanting.
  • Pranayama (breathwork) - we will practice several of the breathing techniques again, such as Ujaii, Nadi Shuddhi (alternate nostril breathing), Three-Part yogic Breath, and Seetali.  A meditation will follow.
  • Advanced Pranayama and Meditation - continuing to build on the previous workshops, explore the way the breath can affect the energy levels in the body, how it can stimulate and relax the mind, as well as appropriate application of the various pranayamas.  We will do a bit of Asana (postures and movement) to explore the various effects of the breath.  Use the heightened awareness after a breathing practice to meditate.
  • Ayurveda- as the seasons change, the winds and the cold or heat and humidity can be unsettling even for the most enlightened among us.  Come and study the ancient healing philosophy of harmonizing with nature and learn how Ayurveda categorizes the experiences of life.  Learn your Dosha and how to balance it.
  • Pancha Mayas - learn about how Yoga can affect your body, spirit, mind, character and your consciousness.  You are going to learn some Sanskrit words and chanting, to penetrate and heal all the levels of your being.  Coupled with asana, it is a powerful tool for the most advanced Yoga practitioner.
  • Marma Points - learn about the healing power of simple touch.  Marmas are points of interest on the body, places where energy has accumulated, and we will talk about the main ones on the back and the feet.  We will play with giving each other "an energetic Marma point massage."
  • Yoga Sutras - learn about what Yoga is, its philosophy and the ancient text that is still one of the most profound expositions on the mind to date.
