Yoga for Wellness is different than just a Yoga class in private, where you come and the teacher leads the practice and does whatever he or she deems appropriate or feels like teaching that day. Yoga can be used in very specific ways to bring greater balance to our lives. Our Western lifestyle, with its daily stresses, emotional, mental, and physical, such as our occupations, the positions we sleep in, the way we prefer to cross our legs, the way we sit, walk, drive, etc., create tension and imbalance.
In a Private Yoga session with me, we take a look at the modifications that your body has made to accommodate your lifestyle, contributing to the conditions that bother you. We discuss some health and lifestyle history, followed by observations of your physical body. Then a short practice is designed for you to do. It is put on paper and rehearsed before you leave, to make sure you understand everything.
It is self-empowering to get to know yourself, to get down to the root of the problem, and commit to doing something about it. After a week or two of doing the program on your own, I would get in touch with you to ask how the program has been working (or not working) for you, and make appropriate changes, if needed. The main idea is that you yourself need to be doing the work that is given to you, taking the matter of your health into your own hands. You may need only one session, or you may need many. The underlying structural issues may or may not go away, but you have a chance to feel a lot better, live without pain, enjoy a better quality of life. Using the postures (Asanas), the breath (Pranayama), Meditation and Self-Study, Yoga for Wellness can potentially heal the whole person from within. Yoga for Wellness is non-invasive and totally complimentary to any other type of therapy or treatment.
